This is pretty exciting. I had the honor of interviewing the great New Orleans Saints Quarterback, Drew Brees. Here’s what we spoke about. he seems as nice and down-to-earth as one would imagine!
Q1. Does your family realize what a superstar you’ve become…or are you still the same old dad and husband?
I’ve known Brittany since college, so to her I think I’m still the same old Drew. We’ve been through so much together – on and off the field – that we share all the accomplishments together. As for the kids, Baylen was born just before the Super Bowl in 2009 and Bowen shortly after. So to them, I’m just dad.
Q2. You were always good, but now it’s safe to say you’re great. How could you make such a leap when you are already performing at such a high level already?
I have to give all the credit to my coaches, teammates and my practice routine. There are always things you can do better and work on. Quarterback coach Joe Lombardi and our staff are great at identifying the small, fundamental things that make a huge difference.
Q3. You have what many would consider a great life and career. What do people not know about being an NFL QB that would perhaps let people know it’s not all roses all the time?
I think people tend to overlook the amount of time and dedication needed to play the quarterback position. The quarterback is the first person in each day and last person out. They need to know their role, and the roles of everyone around them. Also, the quarterback has a huge responsibility to influence everyone around them in a positive way and make them better.
Q4. What was your greatest professional experience to date…being drafted, surpassing Dan Marino’s record, Super Bowl MVP, or winning the Super Bowl and why?
Wow, that’s tough. I think every football player dreams of winning the Super Bowl and that was the greatest professional moment for me. It’s the ultimate prize in sports. What makes it so special is in that moment, all you can think about are the people who helped you get to that point. It was an indescribable feeling to share that moment with my family, team, and the people of New Orleans.
Q5. How do you balance being a father and husband with being a superstar athlete and your charitable endeavors?
You have to be able to prioritize. I love my job and work hard at it, but I never forget that I’m a father to a loving family I cherish more than anything. I also have a great support system in my wife, family and friends, which I think is very important.
Q6. How did you get involved in the UN’s Horn of Africa hunger relief efforts?
After witnessing the food shortages in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, I saw the effects of this issue first-hand. As a parent, I can’t imagine what it must feel like for parents that watch their children suffer from hunger each day. I feel starvation is not something we as people should be dealing with in this day and age.
Q7. You’ve done so much and have had so much success, what is left for you? What gets you going in the morning, both personally and professionally?
There’s always work to be done. I look forward to going to practice every day and making myself a better player. I also have two children at home, and one on the way, who make me look forward to each day and feel more successful than anything else I do.
Be sure to check out Drew in this video, as he is Vicks® First-Ever VapoRub™ Dad. Finally…some parenting respect for the dads!
The sequel ended up being almost like an exact copy of the first game. Too much time for Eli. There was another “the Catch”. There was just enough time for Brady to make me lose a couple years off the end of my life by chucking it up and coming too close to breaking the game in the opposite direction.
Three stars of the game (Hockey style)
Third Star – Steve Weatherford….He went to the (F^&%ing) Superbowl and proved the worth of punters. He pinned the Pats deep and the field position helped the Giants D be effective.
Second Star – Justin Tuck – led the defense in the tradition of Carson and Strahan. He is a rock on that line and will go down in the same breath as the aforementioned in Giant D lore
First Star – Eli Manning – Nothing left to say but Eli-te
Under the radar plays: Webster’s hit on branch to get the ball back. JPP knocking down a 3rd down pass to force a fg.
Games like this, seasons like this, make all the other previous debacles bearable. Without the Philly Meltdown last year when we had Dodge kick it and an entire stadium screamed NO at the same time, we would not have went out and obtained Weatherford. This is the same punter who was ‘terrible’ for the Jets. He was clutch all year for the Giants.
Without the awful losses to the Redskins and Seahawks, the team wouldn’t have come together at the right time and had the ”us vs. the world” mentality and go out and vanquish the Ryan brothers and then handle the 4 of the top teams in football in a row.
It is also fun to see Boston combust in the wake of the Moynihan/Vinatieri curse with Gisele cursing out the WRs and Gronk looking 100% on the dance floor. The Jets will need to spend some money on curtains now. They need one long enough to cover an NFC Championship and another Lombardi Trophy.
I am grateful for this surprise of a title and I promise I won’t get mad at Gilbride or Fewell for at least the first 8 games.
UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit will be airing this Saturday, Feb. 4th live from The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas via PPV. The main card broadcast will start at 10 P.M. Eastern.
After going 3 for 3 on predicting last week’s UFC on Fox 2 main card fights (not to mention being 2 for 3 on predicting the finish of the fights), here are my predictions for tomorrow night’s main card:
UFC on Fox 2 will be airing on your local Fox station this Saturday, Jan. 28th, starting at 8 P.M. Eastern. The televised portion of the event will feature 3 bouts:
Sunday.
The final step.
60 minutes to get a place in history.
All the hard work, long hours of practice and endless cliches.
One more game to get to the Big Game.
Your humble author went a middling 3-3 (4-4 if you must include the last game) last week, as we roll into the NFL semi-final round preview.
Baltimore Ravens Vs New England Patriots(NE -7/50.0)
Sunday, Jan 22 2012 at 3:00 PM (CBS)
So Baltimore comes in with great confidence and a ferocious D (if Ed Reed isn’t hurt as bad as it looked) going into the House of Brady. This is the stereotypical “Great Offense vs Great Defense” game. This game will come down to 1 matchup. The Pats front 7 vs Ray Rice. If they can contain Rice, get Brady the ball multiple times in the first half and make Flacco beat them, this game will not be close. If Rice can chew up yardage and the Ravens can move it enough to take some deep shots, they will have a great chance to win.
I don’t think the Ravens have enough to stop the TE killer duo of the Pats. I think their defense is a little older than they want to admit. They are built to beat the Steelers, not the Pats. On the other side, I think the Pats defense looked very good against a very less than mediocre Denver team. We shall see if the defense is back and really are that good. Flacco wants to be taken seriously as a top tier starter. This is where it needs to happen. The Ravens may be just a mediocre offense, but it has far and away more weapons than Denver did.
I think this game will be close at the half 13-10ish…The Ravens will need to hold to field goals and hit 1 or 2 breakaway plays to win.
Final Score? New England 31- Ravens 21 (Pats and the over)
New York Football Giants vs the San Francisco 49ers (SF -2.5/42)
Sunday, Jan 22 2012 at 6:30 PM
San Fran has been on a roll all year at home. They are a smash mouth, play action team with a mobile QB, super TE and a great defense. The Giants have been on a roll for a month. Eli has proven his worth and can win any game on his own with his trio of good recievers. The weather may greatly break in the 49’ers direction. Rain and slop will slow the pass attack and pass rush of the Giants. This game has all the markings of a slobber-knocker.
This game is a very similar match-up to the first game of the day. Alex Smith is trying to go from #1 overall bust to Super Bowl Winner. Eli Manning is trying to become the Alpha Manning. The history between these franchises is deep with some truly memorable games.
Home field, weather, destiny will lead the 49ers to a win, a cover and the over.
